Dr. David J. Cuccia, Ph.D.

CEO & CTO

Modulated Imaging is a direct result of David’s undergraduate work and doctoral dissertation at UC Irvine, and he is an internationally recognized pioneer and leader in the field of Spatial Frequency Domain Imaging (SFDI). He has successfully secured over $6.5 million in SBIR/STTR grants that facilitated the development of our Ox-Imager™ technology, and has six patents to his name and forty co-authored SFDI publications. Between new inventions, David is a devoted UC Irvine Anteater fan and loves traveling. He’ll even play his saxophone if you ask.

Richard loves start-ups, and Modulated Imaging is his third in medical devices. After graduating from UCLA, Richard was commissioned as a naval officer and served for nine years on guided missile cruisers in the Pacific. After the Navy, Richard started practicing law, eventually caught the start-up bug during the dot.com boom, and has never looked back. Since graduating from Cal State Long Beach, Bruce has devoted his professional career to designing and successfully shepherding hundreds of medical devices from concept to market. Not limited to medical devices, Bruce is an avid long-distance bicyclist, who has designed high-end bicycles, as well as a full-motion bicycle simulator he sold to Schwinn.

Dr. Amaan Mazhar, Ph.D.

VP of Research and Development

Amaan graduated from Rice University with a degree in Bioengineering and Managerial Studies. He subsequently earned a PhD from UC Irvine, where SFDI was the subject of both his graduate and post-graduate research. Amaan is a preeminent expert in the field of SFDI, co-authoring over twenty journal publications and two patents. A longtime fan of numbers, Amaan loves to talk baseball stats, especially when it comes to his beloved Astros.
